The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is preparing to open its new museum next month at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. This museum is dedicated to celebrating Mumbai's distinguished cricketing history and the celebrated individuals who have contributed to its success. The museum will be known as the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum.
Upon entering the museum, visitors will be greeted by life-size statues of Sharad Pawar, a former head of the MCA, BCCI, and ICC, along with the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. According to a statement released by the MCA, "The Gavaskar statue, in particular, will serve as an enduring symbol of excellence and dedication, inspiring future generations of young cricketers."
The museum will feature a remarkable collection of rare and iconic memorabilia, generously donated by Mumbai's celebrated cricketers. These historical artifacts showcase the deep-seated legacy of Mumbai cricket and its significant impact on both Indian and world cricket.
Additionally, the museum will offer a state-of-the-art audio-visual experience center. This center will vividly recount the stories, milestones, and unforgettable moments that have defined Mumbai's cricketing journey.
"The MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum is our sincere tribute to the stalwarts of Mumbai cricket and a testament to the visionary leadership of Shri Sharad Pawar," stated MCA President Shri Ajinkya Naik. "This museum will stand as a living record of Mumbai cricket's unparalleled legacy, dedicated to preserving its rich history and inspiring future generations."
Naik added, "The statue of Shri Sunil Gavaskar, one of India's greatest cricketing legends, will serve as a potent symbol of excellence and determination. His substantial contributions to Indian and Mumbai cricket will continue to motivate young cricketers to dream big and aim high."
Sunil Gavaskar expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am deeply touched and tremendously honored that my mother Cricket Association has decided to have a statue of mine at the entrance of the new MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket museum at the Wankhede Stadium. I will forever be grateful to Mumbai Cricket Association for holding my hand as I took my first steps in the game and to the BCCI for then giving me the opportunity to spread my wings and fulfill the dream of representing my country in the sport. It's an honour which I will cherish for whatever is the rest of my life."
