Mohammed Siraj, the Indian fast bowler, has been penalized following his conduct during the third Test match against England at Lord's. He has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and received one demerit point for his send-off of Ben Duckett.
The incident took place on Sunday, during the sixth over of England's second innings. After dismissing Duckett, Siraj's celebration was deemed excessive and in close proximity to the dismissed batsman. The ICC stated that this violated Article 2.5 of their Code of Conduct, which addresses behavior that could "provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal."
This marks Siraj's second demerit point within a 24-month period, bringing his total to two. He received his first demerit point during the Adelaide Test against Australia on December 7, 2024. Accumulating four or more demerit points within a 24-month timeframe can lead to suspension.
Siraj accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, thus removing the need for a formal hearing. The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Ahsan Raza, and fourth umpire Graham Lloyd.
