The Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series, 2025, has highlighted a rising star in South African cricket: Corbin Bosch. While his family name is familiar, with brother Eathan Bosch also competing in the SA20 and their father having played Test cricket, Corbin Bosch is carving out his own identity.
Bosch has consistently delivered impactful performances. His Test debut against Pakistan in Centurion saw him take a wicket with his very first ball and score an impressive 81 not out.
His form continued in the first Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo last month, where he scored an unbeaten 100 and took 5/74. He followed this up with another 5/65 in the second match. More recently, he claimed 2/16 in a T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.
Statistically, Corbin Bosch's economy rate is noteworthy. Among the 64 seam bowlers who have represented South Africa in T20Is, only 15 have achieved a lower economy rate in an innings where they bowled their full quota of four overs than Bosch's impressive 4.00.
These performances have undoubtedly placed him firmly in contention for the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and India next year. While he wasn't considered for the previous edition in the US and the Caribbean, his recent form has made him a strong contender.
The recent decision by South Africa's cricket authorities to revert to a panel of selectors, after allowing head coaches Rob Walter and Shukri Conrad full control, has raised eyebrows. Patrick Moroney has been appointed as convenor.
Shukri Conrad, who initially promoted Bosch to the international stage, will now have less control over squad selection.
Bosch commented on the selection process, stating, "As cricketers, our goal is to play every time we get an opportunity. It's important to put your best foot forward. If anyone's speaking about it it's background noise. In the set-up no-one's really speaking about it."
He also discussed Conrad's approach: "Shuks is trying to find the best combinations. The goal is the T20 World Cup coming up, and he's trying to fine-tune things for that."
Bosch added, "This is his first white-ball series as head coach, so I think he's also trying to find his feet. But he's meticulously planning how he wants to go about it and how he plans to set up his team. He's doing a good job so far and everyone is buying into his plans."
