Team India has been dealt a significant blow as all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against England due to a serious knee injury. The setback comes just before the crucial fourth Test at Old Trafford.
Confirmation of Reddy's injury follows reports that pacer Akash Deep is also likely to miss the Manchester Test. Akash Deep, a key player in India's victory at Edgbaston, is sidelined with his own injury concern. Additionally, left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh has been officially ruled out of the fourth Test, which is scheduled to take place from July 23 to 27.
Sources indicate that Nitish, 22, injured his left knee, casting serious doubt on his continued participation in the series. The exact cause of the injury is still unknown, but it is believed to have occurred during a mobility training session. Following the incident, Nitish underwent scans to assess the extent of the damage. The BCCI confirmed on Monday, July 21, that he would be returning home due to the injury.
On Sunday, the Indian team visited Old Trafford to meet with Manchester United players. Nitish was absent from the trip. KL Rahul was also not present, but he is reported to be in good health.
With two Tests remaining in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the team management might consider recalling Shardul Thakur. Shardul was chosen over Nitish for the first Test in Leeds before Nitish reclaimed his position in the following two matches.
