Liam Dawson, the left-arm spinner, has been recalled to the England Test squad for the upcoming fourth Test against India at Old Trafford, Manchester. This decision follows the unfortunate news of Shoaib Bashir being sidelined due to a finger fracture sustained on his left hand.

Dawson, aged 35, last represented England in a Test match back in July 2017 against South Africa. His consistent performances for Hampshire over the past two years, which led to him being awarded the PCA Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, have earned him this recall. Throughout his career, Dawson has participated in only three Test matches, securing seven wickets.

In other team news, bowlers Sam Cook and Jamie Overton are set to rejoin their respective county teams to participate in the County Championship.

According to Luke Wright, the England Men's National Selector, Dawson's selection is well-deserved, highlighting his excellent form in the County Championship and his consistent contributions to Hampshire. "Liam Dawson deserves his call-up," Wright stated. "He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire."

Apart from Dawson's inclusion, England has maintained the same squad that was previously announced before the third Test.

The England squad for the fourth Test is as follows:

Squad: Ben Stokes (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes
