Speculation is mounting around Ravichandran Ashwin's future with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), suggesting a potential parting of ways.
While neither party has confirmed the separation, sources close to the CSK camp indicate that the veteran off-spinner, a key player for India in Test cricket, is likely to seek opportunities elsewhere.
The precise reasons for this anticipated split remain unclear. However, it is believed that Ashwin has already communicated his decision to the franchise.
Recent meetings in Chennai between key CSK figures, including current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and former skipper MS Dhoni, have fueled speculation. These discussions likely centered on the franchise's strategies for the upcoming season.
Further indicating a potential departure, Ashwin is expected to relinquish his role as Director of Operations at the CSK Academy, a position he has held for the past year. This move would prevent any potential conflict of interest should he join another franchise.
With an impressive record of 187 wickets and 833 runs in 221 matches, Ashwin is expected to attract considerable interest within the IPL. Whether he will be traded or enter the auction remains to be seen. Last season, he participated in nine games for CSK.
CSK secured Ashwin's services for INR 9.75 crore, marking his return to the Chennai-based franchise after nine years. From 2016 to 2024, he played for Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin's IPL journey began with CSK, where he spent his initial eight seasons (2008-2015) under the leadership of MS Dhoni, debuting in 2009.
This development follows reports that Sanju Samson has requested a release from the Rajasthan Royals.
Cricbuzz has reached out to CSK officials for comment, but no response has been received yet. Ashwin was unavailable for immediate comment.
