Calicut Globstars captain Salman Nizar produced one of the most sensational knocks in Kerala cricket history, smashing 11 sixes in the final 12 deliveries to turn the game on its head and script a remarkable victory against Adani Trivandrum Royals in the Kerala Cricket League on Saturday, August 30.
The Globstars found themselves under severe pressure early on, slipping to 76/4 in the 14th over. When Nizar arrived at the crease, the innings showed little promise, and by the end of the 18th over the score had crawled to 115/6. The Royals were firmly in control, but what followed over the next 12 balls will be remembered as pure T20 magic.
Facing Basil Thampi, a bowler with IPL experience, Nizar showcased fearlessness and raw hitting power. In the 19th over, he blasted five consecutive sixes before cleverly nudging a single to retain strike. The momentum had shifted, but the best was yet to come.
The final over was sheer carnage. Nizar launched six successive deliveries into the stands, with the over also featuring a wide and a no-ball that allowed two additional runs. The result was an astonishing 40 runs off the last over alone, propelling the Globstars from a modest score to a competitive 186/6.
Inspired by their captain’s heroics, the Globstars bowlers turned up with discipline and intensity, ensuring that the Royals never recovered from the shock. A collective bowling effort sealed the victory, but the night undeniably belonged to Nizar.
Beyond the result, the innings carries larger significance for Kerala cricket. Sanju Samson has long been the state’s biggest name in the IPL, but Nizar’s display of composure and big-hitting against a seasoned bowler like Thampi could strengthen his credentials ahead of the next auction.
This was more than just a T20 cameo—it was a historic assault that will be replayed and retold in Kerala’s cricket circles for years to come. Salman Nizar didn’t just win a match; he delivered an unforgettable statement of intent.
